Namaste : The Divine in Me Sees the Divine in You
In each of us, there is a spark of something sacred, a light that radiates from within and connects us to all of life. When we truly see each other, not just on the surface but from the depths of our being, we recognise this spark. This is the essence of Namaste—a traditional Sanskrit word and gesture from India that carries a profound meaning: "The divine in me sees the divine in you." It is more than a greeting; it is a reminder of our shared divinity, an invitation to connect with the deeper essence of ourselves and others. Honouring this sacred presence is a practice that can transform our lives, our relationships, and how we walk through the world. When we meet each other with mindful presence, acknowledging the divine within, our hearts open, and a flow of love, compassion, and connection naturally arises.
Honouring the Sacred in Each Other
Honouring the sacred within each other invites us to see beyond appearances, actions, and words. Every person we encounter carries a unique essence, a spark of the divine, and when we mindfully recognise this with presence, it transforms the way we connect. To honour another’s divinity is to acknowledge their inherent worth, and to do this, we must be present, open, and aware. When we are truly here in this way, our hearts naturally open, allowing the energy to flow—creating space for compassion, love, and connection.
This practice gives us a renewed choice in every moment to bring down the walls of separation we have created, consciously or not. In those moments when we greet each other, when we look into each other's eyes and truly see that within is a divine being, we remember. Namaste reminds us to observe our thoughts, words, and actions so that we avoid separating ourselves from others, allowing our hearts to remain open to the joy of this moment.
When Namaste is done genuinely and correctly, chi energy starts flowing from the heart, extending through the hands. It is in this flow that Reiki becomes alive and activated, the energy of life itself radiating and connecting. The sun, which is our heart, lights up and radiates out from the centre of our being. In this state, we add to the harmony of the world simply by being—our open hearts creating a ripple of peace and balance that touches all around us.
This is not a passive state; it is a conscious, active choice to see each person as they are, in their entirety, without judgment or assumption. It is in this mindful presence that we realise we are not separate beings; we are interconnected, expressions of the same divine energy. And when we approach another with this deep recognition, our hearts soften, creating space for a natural flow of energy—a dance of love and connection between souls.
To honour the sacred is to meet each other as we are: in our joy and our pain, our strength and vulnerability, in all our shades of light and shadow. And in this meeting, our hearts open like flowers in bloom, allowing the divine to move freely through us, like water pouring into an empty cup.
Imagine a world where every encounter begins with this sense of honour and presence. How different our relationships would be, how transformed our experiences of connection would become. When we see another through the eyes of divinity, even the most ordinary interactions become sacred. By offering a kind word, a gentle touch, or silent presence, we gift one another a moment of being truly seen, valued, and loved.
This practice starts with mindfulness—being fully here, aware, and without judgment. It is in this space of mindful presence that we sense the energy of another and recognise their light. In turn, they feel welcomed, acknowledged, and loved. In that moment, misunderstandings fall away, hearts soften, and compassion flows.
To honour the sacred is to create an unbroken circle of love. When our hearts open, we allow the divine energy to flow in all directions, radiating outward to touch everyone we meet. And as we open to others, we also open to ourselves. This is the spirit of Namaste: a sacred greeting, a deep recognition, and an invitation to see the divine within each of us.
