Is Spirit Real?

Is Spirit Real?

The fact that this is even a question baffles me. But I understand—there was a time in my life when I didn’t believe in spirit either. Believing in something intangible, something we can’t touch or see, seems strange.

It feels like the more we know, the less “spiritual” spirit becomes, turning instead into science. What once felt mystical—like flashing in and out of existence—is now explained by quantum physics. Seeing an aura was a spiritual gift; now it’s scientifically measurable. We can even photograph emotions within the body. It’s possible for someone to see ghosts and still not believe in spirit, or for someone to feel other people’s emotions (empathy) and yet remain a skeptic. Spirit seems subjective, a concept shaped by each person's beliefs, emotions, and experiences.

Yet, how do we explain interconnectedness? The miracle of birth? Falling in love? When we examine spirit closely, it seems to dissolve into science, stripping away the sense of wonder and miracle.

What about the spirit of Christmas, the Easter Bunny, Leprechauns, or the Tooth Fairy? Giants are real, too—just google fossilised giants.

How do we explain the unexplained? How do we see the unseen? And how do we unsee the spirit that is already visible?

Explaining something focuses all possibilities into one, pulling it into existence and making it real. That’s just quantum physics, or is it...?

The Nature of Illusion

Is this all an illusion, an elaborate play where attachment holds everything together? Nothing exists independently; everything is made up of other things combined and labelled as ‘chair,’ ‘table,’ or ‘partner.’ We live as if these are real, then suffer when they fail to meet our expectations or beliefs.

Hologram, Simulation, or God’s Creation?

Could this be a hologram, a computer simulation, where we’re part of a grand test?
"Computer, end program."

Is this a creation of God, or multiple gods? Does anyone truly wield that much power? Are we the creators of our lives, or did something greater create us? Maybe both are true.

Is there such a thing as the web of life—a force that connects all things? Nothing is separate; everything is interconnected within this vast universe. And that sounds a lot like science. Perhaps science is simply our way of describing spirit, giving it language and form.

If everything is connected, then why do we feel separate? Why is there pain? And when someone experiences pain, are they still connected to the web of life, or are they touching death or hell?

Death, Limbo, and Ghosts

Death—the one certainty in life. If we are born, we must die. But then, what is limbo? What are ghosts? Are they manifestations of spirit? Perhaps consciousness resides in our bodies, and when the body dies, the spirit lives on. Do some spirits become trapped, lingering in limbo? Is this why ghosts exist?

For every question answered, a million more arise.

Spirit: A Definition

Being in touch with Spirit is being connected to everything—time, space, past, and present, all available in the now. Spirit embodies love, truth, integrity, and life. It’s seeing consciousness and recognising where it all fits. This understanding is not linear; it’s far beyond the capacity of our minds. Spirit is consciousness, it is life, unseen to the subjective mind. Our beliefs, judgments, labels, and perspectives directly shape our perception, experience, connectedness, and communication with spirit. Even now, as I put language to spirit, I view it separately, which means I am no longer within the oneness of spirit.

Bridging Science and Spirit

Let’s bring science and spirit together.

We are thirsty—for answers, understanding, and knowledge of the who, what, when, why, and how. We create and destroy in our quest for knowledge. It’s as if spirit, the unseen force that weaves through all life, is not enough. We crave more. I’m not sure why this sense of separateness exists; perhaps it’s what brings balance to our lives. For life to be life, it requires growth, and for growth to occur, there must also be death. We must have the sun and the moon, day and night, fire and water, food and fasting. The balance of dualities is endless.

Science seems to ground spirit in existence but only takes us so far. Experiments have shown how the human perspective narrows and focuses the limitless potential of each moment. This phenomenon underpins every experiment ever conducted, revealing how our intentions and beliefs shape what we see and create—in consciousness or not.

So, is spirit real? Hmmm... good question.
